THE HIGHWAYMEN - 4 Albums

The Highwaymen were an American country music supergroup, composed of four of country music's biggest artists who pioneered the outlaw country subgenre: Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. Between 1985 and 1995, the group recorded three major label albums as The Highwaymen: two on Columbia Records and one for Liberty Records. Their Columbia works produced three chart singles, including the number one "Highwayman" in 1985.

Between 1996 and 1999, Nelson, Kristofferson, Cash, and Jennings provided the voice and dramatization for the Louis L'Amour Collection, a four-CD box set of seven Louis L'Amour stories published by the HighBridge Company, although the four were not credited as "The Highwaymen" in this work.

Besides the four formal members of the group, one other vocal artist appeared on a Highwaymen recording: Johnny Rodriguez, who provided Spanish vocal on "Deportee", a Woody Guthrie composition, from the album Highwayman.

The four starred in one movie together: the 1986 film Stagecoach.

Formed in 1985, the group did not have an official name when they released their first two albums on Columbia Records. The first album, Highwayman, was credited to "Nelson, Jennings, Cash, Kristofferson". The single "Highwayman", a Jimmy Webb composition, became a #1 country hit. Their cover of Guy Clark's "Desperados Waiting for a Train" reached the Top 20. The album was produced by Chips Moman.

In 1990, the 4 members reunited for a second effort, titled Highwayman 2, which reached #4 on the country album chart. The Lee Clayton-penned song "Silver Stallion" was the first single and made the country Top 40. The album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Collaboration. Highwayman 2 was produced, once again, by Moman. Six of the songs were written or co-written by members of the group.

The group's final release (now listed as "Highwaymen") prior to Jennings's death in 2002 was 1995's Don Was-produced album The Road Goes on Forever, (a Robert Earl Keen cover), with the single, "It Is What It Is".

The band continued to tour into the late 1990s, before Jennings and Cash both started to decline in health, which prevented them from maintaining a full touring schedule. All four continued to perform as solo artists, with Jennings briefly joining Old Dogs.

"Those tours and the records we made were a great time," recalled Kristofferson in 2010. "I just wish I was more aware of how lucky I was to share a stage with those people. I had no idea that two of them would be done so soon. Hell, I was up there and I had all my heroes with me. These are guys whose ashtrays I used to clean. I'm kinda amazed I wasn't more amazed."

Johnny Cash & Waylon Jennings - [1986] Heroes (1995 Reissue)

This album comprised the first full-length work by Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings as a duo, though they had previously worked together as part of the Highwaymen, the existence of whose three LPs may account for the relative neglect that Heroes has received. And it is one of the most obscure records in either artist's output, a fact that's astonishing, given the quality of the music, the singing, and the overall production. Co-produced by Chips Moman, and with Cash and Jennings at the top of their game (and so good at what they do that they make it sound easy), there's not a weak point anywhere here. There's almost no original material on this album, which doesn't make it any less personal than something that Cash or Jennings might have composed themselves: they throw themselves into the music and make it their own, with Moman and the other players smoothing out the whole creation. Whether doing ballads, gospel numbers, or novelty tunes – plus one underrated Bob Dylan tune, "One Too Many Mornings" – the two singers find a good balance across a landscape that's mostly Western-tinged (if the album's title and cover art weren't a giveaway to the latter, the presence of one-time cowboy star Lash LaRue posed with the two singers in two of the three cover shots makes it kind of obvious). With low-key, spare production even on the most sentimental of the ballads ("Love Is the Way"), the music all flows beautifully and showcases the prodigious vocal talents of the duo; the whole is just a bit bigger than the sum of their parts, as Cash and Jennings make covers of contemporary material sound like it's 100 years old. The highlight of the album is the rendition of Rodney Crowell's "I'm Never Gonna Roam Again," which offers a gorgeous mandolin solo by Marty Stuart (joined by an orchestra that doesn't get in the way of the Stuart's playing), but there's not a song here that isn't worth hearing more than once, and Heroes easily deserves to be re-discovered. - Bruce Eder (All Music)

The Chris Rolling Squad from La Roche Sur Yon, France formed during Summer 2013, with the trio delivering a fast and raw Rock 'n' Roll sound.

Hard Rock riffing, Punk wildness, Psychobilly voodoo rhythm with wild and edgy backing vocals. The missing link between Bo Diddley and Slayer.

After the release of their self-titled 5 track (self-released) EP in 2016, their first full-length "Spitfire" came out on the Italian label Wormholedeath Records in April 2019, early 2021 the band moved on to Swedish labels (Climex Records & Tvåtakt Records) and released "Cannonball Holocaust", 14 songs full of speed and anger, loud and mean as hell.

They played hundreds of shows in bars, clubs and festivals, and started to tour in Germany & Spain during 2018.

The 3 angry guys are waiting for the end of the pandemic to get back on stage, between two damn lockdowns they found time to record a third album and already are working on the fourth one, nothing, absolutely nothing will ever stop them!!
