Jack Cade - The Death Throes Of A Jaded Empire

The Death Throes Of A Jaded Empire was written and recorded by Jack whilst holed up in a studio during lockdown. The album title reflects a growing sense that, as a nation, ‘Great’ Britain is somewhat living on it’s past perceived glories, much like a washed up Hollywood actor continually recounting tales of the good old days. Everyone else is moving on, yet we seem unable to reimagine ourselves in a better way.

Musically, it falls somewhere between 2016’s dark and at times attritional ‘A Murder Of Crows’ and the more upbeat tunes of 2019’s ‘Bear Bones’. Covering the theme of awakening, it weaves its way through tales of growing up in a run-down seaside town, hidden history, navigating the difficulties of modern divisions, protest, deception, love and the struggles of letting go of past regrets. It would be fair to say, Jack doesn’t really do light and easy subjects or tales, and his songs are delivered in a distinctive rough baritone that, at times, has a nasty growling edge, as if he has his own personal overdrive pedal lodged in his throat.

Ultimately though, it is all about the lyrics, stories, observations on life and the experiences along that well-worn road that breathe life into his songs, painting broad and accessible pictures on each subject.

"The Death Throes of a Jaded Empire" is a relentless and glorious wallow in imperfect contrition. Very much a lockdown record, one for dark nights, short days and a hope in your heart. A red sky at night record."

JACK CADE [2019] Bear Bones

The latest solo album from Jack Cade with songs inspired by the everyday goings on of life in a modern world. This album sees Jack move in a more upbeat direction from the first solo album, with a mix of acoustic and full band numbers. Maverick Country Music Magazine described Bear Bones as a '...stellar album'.

In keeping with Jack's ethos, you can download the album for free, but if you can spare a few bucks it is much appreciated as, like all artists, they put a lot into making these tunes happen. If you can't spare anything that's ok, just remember to spread the word and do some shout outs on social media, post an Instagram pic, follow Jack on Social media, put the music on a playlist or tell a local promoter he should book Jack, it all helps.

THE EVERYDAY SINNERS

"Take about two cups of Johnny Cash add a dash or two of Tom Waits, and a smidgen of the psychobilly or punk roots that began molding him years ago, and you have Jack Cade."

Jack Cade puts his musical leanings down to a mixture of watching Sergio Leone westerns far too many times and his early years spent sitting in his grandparents kitchen on a Sunday afternoon, whilst the roast dinner was in full swing, with the radio spewing out any number of country tunes.

Jack Cade plays a mix of Americana and Alt-Country usually as a solo performer but at times with The Everyday Sinners. His vocals are a rough and ready deep growl, delivered with simply crafted songs about love, loss and the bits in between.

The full band is now called The Everyday Sinners, on the initial releases they went out as Jack Cade And The Everyday Sinners.

The Everyday Sinners has been a slow evolution over the last 7 years, having recorded a debut album 'This Fiery Road' with friends and session musicians, a live band was initially put together with Adam Perry a drummer who brings both subtlety and power, Mike Muggeridge the driving heartbeat of the band on bass, Jack Cade on Guitar and vocals and various part time members who dropped in and out over the first few years. In 2012 the band enlisted the vivid vocal talents of Helen Muggeridge and during 2017 the exceptionally versatile Ben Cox-Smith on Dobro and guitar has become a more permanent fixture having featured on all the album recordings. Finally the line-up has been completed with the arrival of Chris Davies on Piano and Hammond, giving the band the all round sound live that they get with their recorded work.
